Chapter 6.2 Multiplication and Division EQUATIONS in EXPRESSIONS and EQUATIONS.

Good EVENING TO ALL,
I am hoping that most if not all students are doing well with solving Equations- solving for the unknown!
Working with Expressions is a foundation to Solving Equations!!! In EQUATIONS, you must keep one side of the equal sign equal to the other side doing INVERSE OPERATIONS -
the book is calling these properties, which they are, LAWS to solve mathematical sentences.
The coefficient is a review term from last chapter - remember- the number (only) stuck onto the variable?
And the Multiplication and Division Properties of Equalities allow you to BALANCE the equation correctly.
Hang on and watch the videos and ask questions and pay attention to the examples and you will be off to a great start! What a mouthful.
Write down the 3 vocabulary words from this lesson into your Graphic Organizer! Make sure you define them in meaningful manners.
These two little darlings belong to Alana.  The kitty is Peanut Butter and the puppy is Moe.
I hope no one is allergic to Peanut Butter!

Homework: Read the blog, define the vocabulary in meaningful manner, watch the videos and take notes in your graphic organizer- start your Chapter 6 Portfolio on EQUATIONS!

Chapter 6.1 EQUATIONS!!!! in the standard of Expressions and Equations!!

Good Evening to all,
It is HERE! FINALLY!! NO MORE WAITING!!!
BET YOU THOUGHT THIS TIME WOULD NEVER COME!!!!
EQUATIONS!!!
Yay, now we are into really higher Mathematics.  And you are all welcome to join in on all this fun.
Everything you learned about expressions is fairly much a foundation for the big EQUATIONS.
You will be Combining Like Terms and  simplifying BUT now you will be solving for the UNKNOWN- that is the variable.
Equations are a balancing act - One side MUST equal the other.
The vocabulary terms for these section are: Equation, Solution, and 2 Properties ( Laws of Math)
So hang on to your seats for a ride into Equations.
You must right down what Equations are on the front of your Chapter 6 Graphic Organizer.

Chapter 5 Lesson 7 Subtracting Distributive and Like terms in the standard of Expressions and Equations.

Good evening Girls and Boys
Here are the videos on chapter 5, lesson 7.
This Lesson is about Subtracting Linear Expression. We have already define what Linear Expression is

(See blog for chapter 5 lesson 6).
One thing to look for in this lesson is the negative sign in front of the second parenthesis.
You should always make sure you distribute the negative sign by doing “double multiply”.

“Double Multiply” is our second secret word.
The first secret word is in one of the video. Happy hunting!
Try to solve this puzzle for Monday
Once upon a time a farmer went to market and purchased a fox, a goose, and a bag of beans. On his way home, the farmer came to the bank of a river and rented a boat. But in crossing the river by boat, the farmer could carry only himself and a single one of his purchases - the fox, the goose, or the bag of the beans. If left together, the fox would eat the goose, or the goose would eat the beans.
The farmer's challenge was to carry himself and his purchases to the far bank of the river, leaving each purchase intact. How did he do it?

Hi Everybody, this is Nolan's kitty...... she is so cute.
Homework: Read the blog, watch the videos, take notes in your graphic organizer and post into your portfolio CHAPTER 5 LESSON 6 on SUBTRACTING EXPRESSIONS!!!

Chapter 5.6 Adding Linear EXPRESSIONS in the standard of EXPRESSIONS and EQUATIONS.

Good evening Girls and Boys

Here are the videos on Chapter 5, lesson 6.
Lesson 6 is about Adding Linear Expression. Do you see a smaller word inside Linear?? Bet you do.....what is it? Write this down in your graphic organizer.
A linear expression is an expression in which the
variable is raised to the first power.
Here are some examples:
5x, 3x + 2 are Linear Expressions.
5x^2, 3x^2 + 2 are Nonlinear Expression as the x is raised to the power of 2.
All we are doing when adding linear Expression is
combining Like Term within that Algebraic Expression.
When we graph a Linear Expression it will always
 be a straight line.
Our secret word is “Linear Expression”

Here are Mr Boubacar's 2 young son's....
Nadir is the little one at 20 months old
and Malik is the older one at 5 years old.  Ok, so this picture was from this summer as they would be buried in snow if it was recent picture. They are adorable.

Homework: Read the blog, take notes in your graphic organizer and post into your chapter 5 portfolio.

Chapter 5.5 Simplifying Algebraic EXPRESSIONS in the standard of EXPRESSIONS and EQUATIONS

Good evening Girls and Boys
Welcome back. I hope you have a good break.
Here are the videos on chapter 5, lesson 5
Lesson 5 is about simplifying Algebraic Expression. I think that this is a very simple concept.
All we are doing when simplifying an algebraic expression, is
combining term that are similar also call “Like Terms”.
Here is one thing I want you to pay attention to:
the variables have to be the same and have to have the same power.
X and X2 cannot be combine because although they are the
same variable or base, the powers are different, so therefore, these are NOT like terms.
Psssss.....your secret words: Combining Like Term:

This little kitty is Carly, she belongs to Sophia!
Another sweetie of a kitty!

Homework: Read the blog, take notes in your graphic organizer and  listen to the videos on LESSON 5 - plus post in your portfolios.

Chapter 5.4 DISTRIBUTIVE PROPERTY in the standard of Expressions and Equations

Good Evening girls and boys.
Here are the videos for chapter 5.4. It is about the Distributive Property, it is probably one of the most important concept in algebra, and very useful. You will be using it a lot, so let's work together on mastering this concept.
The Distributive Property deals with a number that
multiple a sum or a product.
I think of Distributive Property as "Double Multiply"-This is your first secret word.
In this lesson we will be using the Distributive Property to rewrite expressions ( remember the standard: Expressions and Equations.)
Our vocabulary term for this lesson is Distributive Property and the second secret word for this lesson is "Distribution."
Remember to take notes in your graphic organizer, and write down all the questions that come up. Bring them to class
so we can go over them.
I am very excited to be here, and I want to add that
 Algebra is my favorite subject.
So let have fun with variables, expressions and equations.

This is Talia's little kitty, Luna.   So sweet.
For homework: read the blog, take notes in your graphic organizer and watch the videos plus post in your portfolio for Chapter 5.4!

Chapter 5.3 Properties in MATH in the standard of Expressions and Equations

Good Evening to Everyone,
I am writing this blog but our own Mr Boubacar is doing his very FIRST videos!! So please be patient with him and let him know politely if you find a mistake.  I look back at my first video and it is a scary thing... Let's encourage Mr B on with doing another one soon.....

In this lesson 3, we are working on some important Properties in Math.  Properties are laws in math that allow you do perform certain tasks.  These properties do not apply to some operations (+ - x /) but not all for every property.  So pay special attention to these properties and the operations for each one.  You may be familiar with these.  There are 2 properties that are on page - they are the Communtative Property of + and x
Associative Property of + and x
These 2 properties deal with numbers that flip or parenthesis that flip.  Your job is to figure out which property for which operation.  Have you noticed which operations DON'T have these properties? Please enter the 2 operations that do not use these properties....Write these down in your Graphic Organizer.

An Ever so cute picture of puppies and Elyse!!! How can you stand all this sweetness?!!!!!!!

Homework: Read the blog, take notes in  the graphic organizer, post in your portfolio in Chapter 5!
(This video is over 12 minutes long and you do not need to watch after the first slide. )
