Good Evening to all,
We are skipping around in this chapter and we are going on with Multiplying and Dividing Fractions. So hang on for a little bumpy ride.........
In MULTIPLYING fractions you do not need to find a common denominator as you do in adding and subtracting or even comparing fractions. You simply multiply the numerators together and then the denominators together and SIMPLIFY the ANSWERS. Often time there is a hint when multiplying, and that is the secret word, "of" . So be on the lookout for this little but powerful word OF. You are taking a part of a part when multiplying.
Now, with DIVIDING fractions, you have an extra step. Because dividing is the opposite operation of multiplying, you are going to take the reciprocal of the SECOND fraction and then multiply through. So, dividing is a bit more difficult, it is still not requiring you to find the common denominator. So, when dividing, I "flip n Multiply" the second fraction! to get the answer. We will go over several of these problems on line and in class so ask questions when you have them.
This is the baby calf that Rebecca had for a short time.
Homework: Read the blog, watch the videos, take notes in your Graphic Organizer and put into your portfolio.
As Always in MATH,
Mrs M
